On Tuesday, October 31, 2000, as a part of the celebrations for the site's first Halloween, a flashing pumpkin was neatly placed on the left side of the Home Page symbolizing not only the holiday but the site itself. The pumpkin was given a name, and the tradition of having a site mascot was born.
